Celebrities Love Botox
Increasingly celebrities are publicly confirming that they are using Botox, as the substance becomes more available through a range of beauty treatments. So much so that it seems almost taken for granted and causes little surprise amongst the public and readers of celebrity lifestyle magazines and web sites. One of the most notable users of Botox for cosmetic reasons is Katie Price, AKA Jordan, the model and television celebrity. "I get my forehead and around my eyes Botoxed every six months and I love it. You can't beat it," she says in her adoration of the anti-wrinkle treatment.
Developed in recent years for a range of cosmetic and medical treatments, Botox is a highly toxic substance that is one of the most lethal toxins in the world. But used in extremely small doses it can have a huge range of beneficial effects in treating people with a variety of conditions. As a painkiller, Botox is especially effective in conditions that involve muscle spasms and disorders. Since the 1980s it has been used to treat over 1 million patients across the world and without significant side effects. Essentially, Botox is a toxin, but when used in tiny amounts it can have anti-ageing effects and today many celebrities endorse its use and publicly admit to doing so themselves.
Botox ‘hen parties'
The use of Botox has become so commonplace in celebrity circles that such events as a ‘Botox hen party' stir little controversy in the media. Katie Price recently treated her friends to a free day of cosmetic treatment at a beauty clinic. Minus the usual alcohol and dressing up, her girl friends crowded into the beauty parlour to enjoy a range of cosmetic and well being procedures, including Botox injections. The idea of using Botox as a quick fix for red carpet occasions and it's apparent ease of use, extends to some high profile male celebrities as well as the usual glamour models and pop stars.
Men that have claimed, and often boasted, of their use of Botox to improve their looks and reduce the effects of ageing include Simon Cowell of the X factor and celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay. For the chef who likes to use swear words a lot of the time, Botox has certainly made an impact, and his willingness to publicly advocate the use of it, often in less than sensitive ways directed at other celebrities, seems to indicate that the use of Botox as a beauty treatment for men is now a socially accepted norm.
While public figures such as Simon Cowell certainly appear to be looking better than they did previously, many celebrities are careful to limit their use of Botox. Over doing it can mean that people's faces are overly un-wrinkled, and appear robotic or plain. It's important to remember that Botox is a toxin, and that although there are no side effects on liver toxicity, it should still be used sensibility. Used carefully, Botox can have some remarkable anti-ageing effects, but overdo it and a celebrity face could become something more akin to a celebrity mask.
