Tighty Whities and Other Reasons to Love the Wii Fit and Wii Fit Plus
For years the consensus has been that video games are detrimental to the health of our generation of "couch potatoes". With the advent of Wii Fit, however, dieters no longer have to choose between fitness and fun.
While games like tennis and bowling were included when the Wii was first released, these games were merely meant for leisurely entertainment. Getting up and mimicking motions with the Wii control was considered better than traditional video games, but hardly as beneficial as a legitimate 30-60 minutes of exercise a day. Nintendo decided to monopolize on the advantages of Wii technology in late 2007 and released the first issue of Wii Fit.
The latest version of Wii Fit is "Wii Fit Plus", and let me tell you I am in love! This is a program suitable for exercisers at any level. It also works for any type of exercisers. It doesn't matter if you're a gym rat or get bored quickly with "strict" exercises- this equipment is for you.
Features and enhancements for Wii Fit Plus include tools to reinvigorate your workouts in addition to exercises and balance games designed to keep them fun. Players can customize their workout routines or choose 20-, 30- or 40-minute workouts based on their time constraints. There are also specialized workout routines to match your fitness goals or target areas. Strength and yoga activities can be mixed and matched, creating a seamless and efficient workout.
If all these reasons don't have you convinced you could love the Wii workouts as well, here are some important factors to consider:
1. Results are university tested:
Liverpool John Moores University in the UK reports that actively using the Wii can make you "27 pounds thinner per year" versus a sedentary lifestyle.
2. It's right there! You can workout in your underwear without ever leaving the house:
In the time it takes you to pop in a boring DVD or flip channels, you could be on your way to a customized, unique workout. Because the Wii Fit is fun and easy to use you no longer have to force yourself to exercise.
3. It's cheaper than a personal trainer or gym membership.
The average gym membership alone can cost anywhere between $400-800 dollars a year. The cost of a regular session with a trainer can double that which to many is impossible in this economy. The Wii Fit system however? A total of about $290 for the system and game package. That seems like a quite a steal after all those squeaky bikes and sweaty fellow gym members huh?
Now Wii Fit isn't in the budget for every household, and to be honest, there's nothing wrong with some good old fashioned (and free) road side jogging. But if the Wii Fit is something you can afford, I highly recommend it.
As the commercial goes; Wii Fit Bundle? $290. Your health? Priceless. And working out in your tighty whities? Forget about it!
